weekend recap

I can't believe it's the middle of August already. Where has the summer gone?! Only a few more weeks of summer bliss left. Every year it seems the back-to-school commercials are being shown earlier and earlier. I sometimes still get that dreaded feeling in the pit of my stomach that school is starting up again soon...then reality kicks in and I realize I don't go to school anymore and then relief sets in.  I'm sad that summer is quickly flying by, so any day that begins and ends on the beach makes me very happy. My little family and I headed to the shores of Long Island this Saturday for some fun in the sun. Hopefully our tans last as long as the winter does. Fat chance! J.Crew triangle top. We walked in the Dominican Parade yesterday and we had the best time. I always jump at the chance to support my people and my heritage. If you've never been to the Dominican Republic, you have to put it on your list of countries to visit. I'm biased though. It's not only fairly inexpensive to visit, but the total experience is incomparable. There are alot of newly developed resorts, especially on Punta Cana, that are all-inclusive meaning food, drinks and numerous activities are included in the small price. Hey! I just had an idea: why not center a post on it. I can tell you guys the best times during the year to visit, hotels, I even have experience if any of you are looking to have a destination wedding. Is that something you guys would be interested in? pit stop for some yumminess on a cone and dirty water dawgs at Gray's Papaya!  itchin' for some new running sneaks. these were pretty hot!  homemade veggie cauliflower crust pizza: healthy, gluten free and delicious! don't knock it 'til you try it.

I broke out my favorite J.Crew 'Heart Me' Sweater for lunch with friends and strolling through the city. I last wore it here. How appropriate that it's Valentine's Day week or as I like to call it Love Day. Do you guys celebrate or do you find Love Day too commercial? Spill!

Our holiday festivities would not be complete without a trip in below 50 degree weather to see the iconic Rockefeller Center Tree. Every year, we like to head into the city to battle the crowds to see the tree and the holiday windows at NYC's famous department stores a.k.a. Saks, Macy's, Bergdorf, Bloomies, etc. It is such a touristy thing to do, but we enjoy it nonetheless and it has become the quintessential Christmas experience. This year, it was extra special because our little man joined us. {Tip: It is "less crowded" if you go on a weeknight and not too close to Christmas.} I just love the energy of the city around this time, the bright lights, the lovely decor and the streets are buzzing (even more so) with shoppers. And every year, I always end with the same thought: There truly is no place like New York for the Holidays. 

P.S. Is it corny that I am super excited my pre-pregnancy skinny jeans fit?!!

As far back as I can remember, leopard has been on the top of my favorites list. It's been in the recent years, that the print has become my go-to "black." There's a certain classic, timeless element to it that never goes out of style. I love that leopard is being extended beyond just clothing, though; you can find it in rugs, wallpaper, even on food!? It became really popular among the ladies back in the '60's but lately it seems it's becoming more of a fashion trend. What do you guys think of it? Like or Pass?

This lace blazer was one of those items that as soon as I saw it I just had to have it. Today, it is one of my favorite go-to blazers and I can always count on it to dress up any plain outfit. It is rather heavy, though, so it is only fall and winter-appropriate.

spring-ready willing + able

Usually, January and February seem interminable for me. Those months just seem to drag because of the cold and snowy weather. But this winter season, I cannot complain because the weather has been nothing short of amazing. We had a rare chilly day on the day of these photos. So much so, I had to pop on the gloves and my heavy wool coat. To give you an idea of the roller coaster ride this season has been: yesterday, it reached the 60's and it was bright and sunny. The mood in the city was vibrant; everyone looked hopeful and so ready for Spring. I already have my eye on bright tops and bottoms, funky statement jewelry, cute peep toes, and a few new colored handbags.
