It's Monday again, folks! Hope your day has been easy and productive. How was your weekend? The temps around here were be-au-ti-ful! The perfect weather for some outdoor fun in the sun and clearly there was lots of pizza involved. Yummy! Here is my weekend in pictures. 

• If you live in New York and you haven't been to L&B's in Brooklyn - you. have. to. go. like now! And get their sicilian (pictured above). Let me just warn you now that people line up for these things so get there early. 

• A hot little number I wore this weekend; full outfit post coming this week. 

• We made this BBQ Chicken Cauliflower Crust Pizza and loved it! Only 150 calories per slice - ummm yeah! 

• My accessories for the day included this necklace, a vintage one, and this denim vest. 

• We took our little man to the Queens Farm Museum and had a great time feeding the animals, watching him run around, and picking out fresh produce to bring home.

diy distressed shorts

I instagrammed a photo of these two weeks ago, and I've been restraining myself from taking scissors to my entire jean collection.  I distressed these in a few spots and I love the outcome. These were a pair of vintage levi's boyfriend jeans that I picked up at a thrift shop that needed to be re-loved. 

*Jeans
*Measuring Tape
*Chalk or Fabric Marker
*Sharp scissors
Slip on jeans and measure where you want to cut jeans with chalk (or fabric marker). If you plan to cuff them, add about two inches to your desired length. Cut jeans at marked lines with scissors.  With scissors, cut two slits in area where you want to distress. Keep in mind the distressing will occur inside of the two slits. Once you have cut your desired slits, pull at the white threads with a fine needle to loosen and separate from the blue threads. Pick at the white threads individually and lift them away from the denim edge. This helps to loosen the white threads and also the blue ones.  Use your tweezers to pull the blue threads out. This part is a bit of a challenge, but once you get the first thread the rest come out pretty easily. Continue distressing in other areas to achieve your desired look. Don't worry if you mess up here or there, the whole finished product is supposed to look imperfect. That's the whole appeal to the distressed look.  After you're done, throw them in the washer and dryer to get that fraying and tattered look.  Voila! Final product after wash and dry.  *In order to create the perfect denim shorts out of jeans, choose a pair that is slightly looser in the thigh area. I chose a pair of boyfriend levi's. 
*One way to choose the perfect length for your shorts is to measure the intended jeans against a pair you already own and are the perfect length. It's always better to make them longer, just to be on the safe side. 
*You do not necessarily need to use the needle to dig out the white threads; but I did find it easier on time (and my hands!)
*Always throw them in the washer and dryer. This step is essential to achieving the distressed look. 
*If this is your first time distressing, it would probably be best to test out on a pair that you don't have too much love for in the event the distressing doesn't come out exactly the way you want it to.

This look has become my summer uniform; boyfriend shorts, an easy top, chucks or sandals, and simple accessories. It's easy to throw on especially when running on 4 hours of sleep on the morning after a late night, like this past weekend. Easy breezy outfits are just one of the many reasons I love summer.

flea market sunday

  Sundays were meant for flea markets! Now that the warmer weather is here, going to the flea markets on Sundays has become a weekly thing. It is one of my favorite things to do because there are so many cool items you can find, and I am a sucker for vintage. Here are a few tips when heading to your local flea market.
Tips: 

• Arrive early. You never want to miss out on the best pieces, so arriving early will ensure you get first dibs. By noon, chances are there will be a crowd. So arriving early will give you the best chances at leaving with quality pieces and there is almost nothing that feels better than scoring on unique and great merchandise. 
• Wear comfortable footwear. As much as I love my heels, I always leave them behind when going to the market. You want to wear comfortable flats, sandals, or sneakers (Converse is my go-to) as you'll be doing lots of walking and sometimes the conditions aren't heel-friendly. Think crowds, gravel, and if you have to drag your items home on public transportation you want to be comfortable.  
• Bring cash. Although there seem to be a growing number of vendors that are accepting credit cards, most still do not; like the fresh produce section. So be sure to stop by the ATM on your way to the market. You don't want to find yourself missing out on a great item if you have to run to the ATM while you are there. 
• Bring your appetite. Depending on which market you go to, most all today have the best local food vendors. It's a great way to feed your appetite without having to leave the flea in search of somewhere to eat. Plus, you get to "sample" local restaurants.
• Travel light. Bring a backpack or shoulder bag filled with sunscreen, water, money, and a hat for cover. If you know you are looking for an oversized item, pack a tape measure. You don't want to be weighed down by extra items and you will need room for the goodies you just bought. 
• Stay focused. If you know what items you are going for, keep focused on those items. If it's a big market, it can get overwhelming pretty quickly especially if there is a crowd. I usually go with a list of stuff I am looking for and stay focused on that. Overall, go with an open mind to bargain and most of all HAVE FUN!

Hey party people! How was your weekend? Mine was just fabulous. There is nothing like summer weekends, I tell you. No better excuse to spend the weekend at the pool or beach cooling off, on the go, or just being lazy (you can always blame it on the heat). We got a little bit of rest yesterday but have been on the go for the better part of the weekend. After this past week's heatwave, Saturday and Sunday were glorious days; yesterday being the better of the two. We spent Saturday in Long Island at a backyard barbecue doing what we do best: eating, drinking, talking and lounging by the pool. If we had our own pool, I'm pretty sure that's where you'd find us about 95% of the summer. Sunday, we checked out the new flea market in LIC in Queens. It is not as big as the Brooklyn Flea, but still definitely worth a run through to see all the cool stuff they have. And a trip into the city is never complete without a stop through SoHo. It's disappointing that summer is so short of a season. Retail stores are already putting out their fall merchandise and although I love the Fall season, it's depressing to think the cold looms right around the corner. Yes, I'm in denial. 'Til then I'll be making the most out of the summer. So should you. 
By the way, I can't get this song OUT. OF. MY. MIND. Doesn't it make you want to take off all your clothes?! Oh. That's just me huh?!

Happy Friday and Summer Solstice, bloggies! Yes, summer is officially here! It feels like we've been waiting forever for it to arrive. Hope everyone had a pleasant and productive week. I have been wearing these leather shorts on repeat. They are just so easy to throw on and can be worn dressed up as seen here or casual with some chucks. I love versatility. One thing I will promise you is that these shorts will be on repeat this summer. Trust me. 
I know you are all looking forward to the weekend, as I am! It's going to be a busy weekend and week up ahead too, but a 'good busy' so I'm not upset. We have a party this weekend, some fitness planned outdoors, and lots of fun stuff planned next week but I'll definitely be popping in here on the blog as well as here, if you want to follow along. Hope you all have a wonderful 'start to the summer' weekend filled with ice pops, sand, and fun in the sun :)

Can we just stop for a moment and have a moment of silence for these faux leather shorts? *cue elevator music* If I told you I loved them, it'd be an understatement. They are perfect in every way but then again isn't everything Zara makes?! I am a self-dubbed Zara whore, seriously. If I wore everything I owned from Zara on the blog it would take the element of surprise out of every outfit post. I checked and they don't have these shorts on their website anymore, but these are similar. Now let's talk about these sandals. I've had these sandals for well over a year and I just realized this is the first time I've worn them on the blog. I'm a bad girl! When they first came out, I think every blogger in Blog Land scooped them up. That's what usually happens when you mix shoe-a-holics and a gorgeous shoe at a great price point. Naturally, I gravitate towards colors like red, black, animal print, and brown but these stood out to me moreso than the other color choices because of the great color combo. So these sexy green and blue sandals were a perfect pop of color to add to my collection. I'm getting sassy in my old age.
